J. Scott Wilfong
Remarks: Financial Literacy and the Impact on Business
J. Scott Wilfong is Chairman, President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Greater Washington/Maryland, which is comprised of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia and operates a network of over 260 offices.
A 33-year veteran of the banking industry, Mr. Wilfong previously served as President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Atlanta and President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Maryland. Prior to joining a SunTrust predecessor in 1997, Mr. Wilfong worked as senior vice president and commercial division manager at First Union National Bank in Maryland. Mr. Wilfong began his banking career with Equitable Trust Company in 1972.
He currently serves as Chair for the American Heart Walk 2008, and serves as a board member for the American Bankers Association, Consortium of Catholic Academies, Federal City Council (Executive Committee), George Mason University Foundation(Finance Committee), Greater Washington Board of Trade (Executive Committee), Greater Washington DC Police Foundation, Greater Washington Initiative (Executive Committee), Greater Washington Sports Alliance, HEROES, Inc, 2009 Vice Chair Maryland Bankers Association, Mt. St. Mary’s University (Trustee and Executive Committees), Operation Hope, Inc., Virginia Early Children’s Foundation, Washington Airports Task Force, Washington National Zoo. He is also a member of Catholic Charities, DC Chamber of Commerce, Economic Club, Virginia Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce.
He has served on the boards of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Central Atlanta Progress, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Police Foundation, The Community Foundation, One Ninety One Club of Atlanta, and the Buckhead Coalition, Inc., the Marcus Institute and St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was a chairman of the Economic Development Committee for the Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and served on the Executive Committee. He is a trustee of Mount St. Mary's College and Agnes Scott College, Baltimore Development Corporation, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Catholic Charities, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond - Baltimore Branch, Greater Baltimore Alliance, Greater Baltimore Committee, Mercy Health Services, Inc., and Loyola College’s Sellinger School of Business & Management.
Mr. Wilfong is a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Leadership Program and the Maryland State Leadership Program. He was named 2001 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for the State of Maryland.
A Baltimore native, Wilfong earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Mount St. Mary’s College and an MBA from Loyola College.
