Alex Wong
Alex joined the World Economic Forum in 2000 and has held a variety of leadership positions including heading the IT and Telecoms, Media & Entertainment, Consumers, and Mobilities Industry teams. Currently Alex is a Senior Director and heads the Center for Global Industries in the Forum's Geneva headquarters with senior management responsibility in leading the development and implementation of the Forum's industry strategies. He additionally heads the Basic Industries including the Chemicals, Engineering & Construction, and Mining & Metals industries, as well as the many associated initiatives involving the Basic Industries such as the Forum's SlimCity initiative (a multi-industry initiative between the Basics, Energy, and Mobility industries that focuses on sustainability in the urban environment). Alex also heads the Global Education Initiative (GEI), a flagship Forum initiative launched in 2003 to develop partnerships in education at the country, regional, and global level to help countries achieve their quantitative and qualitative education sector objectives. The GEI has facilitated active partnership initiatives in Jordan, Egypt, Rajasthan, Rwanda, and the Palestinian Territories and has global partnerships with Unesco and the Fast Track Initiative. Prior to joining the Forum, Alex worked for 12 years with Accenture, General Motors and the US National Parks Service. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University.
